Comprehensive Topographic Survey for Site Redevelopment
The scope of works for this project centered on a detailed topographic survey to support a proposed commercial redevelopment. A significant challenge was the active nature of the site, which included moving machinery, large stockpiles, and complex road networks, making traditional ground access difficult and potentially hazardous.
To overcome this, we employed a drone topographic survey methodology combined with GPS survey equipment for ground control. The final solution provided the client with a complete, accurate dataset of the area, ensuring that all critical features were mapped safely without disrupting the facility’s daily operations.
Advanced Photogrammetry and Aerial Data Capture
For this land survey, the objective was to capture high-resolution data of the entire recycling facility and its boundaries. The challenge lay in accurately mapping the irregular heights of waste piles and the adjacent railway line, which required a non-intrusive method to ensure safety and compliance.
We utilized photogrammetry to process the drone photography into a seamless, scale-accurate digital model. This approach allowed us to generate a precise 3D representation of the site, giving the client a clear "aerial overview" that would have been impossible to achieve with standard ground-based surveying alone.
Delivered Precision with 2D CAD Drawings
The project required transforming raw aerial data into usable engineering formats for the design team. A key challenge in any topo survey of this scale is converting the dense point cloud data into clean, interpretable plans that architects can use for planning applications.
Our final solution included the delivery of detailed 2D CAD drawings alongside the orthomosaic maps. These files provided the essential metric data, including site boundaries and access routes, ensuring the redevelopment team had a robust foundation for their architectural designs.
